Basalt

I'll stay long enough to watch it burn
So much 'til my skin melt beneath the sun
And you can only hold me for so long

I knew hope and fury when they were in hands
Couldn't let it quench and dissolve up in the sky
And right there I still expected truths turn back to lies

There's no chance or choice or amnesty
I cannot lie levity, I'm unchained and in great ablaze
And no belied grace could be this overwhelming
Chaos dwells until I'll be pure basalt

I'll stay long enough to watch it fall
So far to know how fast it'll hit and crawl
And no one will break it in the sake of rue

If there's a truth boiling down below
It's easy to know because it's just who we are
And not who the wind would simply blow for too far
